What is ortho trauma physio ?

Orthopaedic Trauma Physiotherapy is a specialist area of physiotherapy concerning the treatment of orthopaedic problems such as fractures, joint replacement, joint dislocation, soft tissue injuries such as degloving, tendon damage or tears, and associated problems such as reduced range of movement, pain and muscle wasting.

Injuries of this nature can have a significant effect on a person’s ability to complete the activities that matter most to them. Trauma and orthopaedic physios provide treatments that can be highly beneficial in assisting the recovery of movement, managing pain, improving stability, and regaining the ability to complete important day to day activities.

Who do you help?

Our expert trauma and orthopaedic Physiotherapists help people recovering from a wide range of problems such as bone, joint, muscular, tendinous or ligamentous injuries and pain. We have provided rehabilitation following complex fractures, joint replacements, fusion surgery and reconstructive surgery.

What kind of treatments do you offer ?

TraumaPhysio provides effective, targeted treatment. Our Physiotherapists maintain high levels of professional standards and training which means that our treatment approaches are constantly evolving to ensure they’re the very best.

Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy treatments can broadly be divided into those that look to directly change the nature of the condition and others that train the body to compensate for a loss of function or utilize aids and strategies to adapt to a permanent change.

TraumaPhysio treatments can therefore be very varied but it’s often important that they’re intensive, repetitive and specific to whatever movement or task you want to do. To achieve this we provide structured exercises supported by videos and photographs, hands-on treatment, video analysis and retraining of movement, assistive technology, splinting and community focussed activities.

What are your opening hours?

TraumaPhysio is open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. If we are in consultation and unable to answer your call please leave a message and one of our team will return it as soon as possible. You can also make enquires via our contact page.

How long are the appointments?

All TraumaPhysio consultations are one hour in duration, unless previously agreed. A comprehensive assessment may necessitate a longer initial meeting which would be agreed with you before taking place.

Where are you and what areas do you cover?

TraumaPhysio provides a comprehensive domiciliary service in Herts, Essex, South Bedfordshire, East Buckinghamshire, North London and East London. Our provision is however expanding, so if you are outside of these areas please do make an enquiry and if we are unable to help we can point you in the right direction.

Is Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy only useful for people soon after their injury or diagnosis?

No, absolutely not! TraumaPhysio frequently help people in the early stages of their rehabilitation as well as those who have been living with a condition for years. We know that it’s certainly possible to make improvements several years after an injury.

What is your cancellation policy?

TraumaPhysio requires 24-hours’ notice of any cancellation and failure to do so may result in the full fee being charged.

How do I make an appointment with TraumaPhysio?

TraumaPhysio consultations are by appointment only and can be arranged by contacting us on 0800 915 3288 or emailing

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to see a Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapist, though we often work closely with other medical professionals. If you have any clinic letters or discharge reports relating to your treatment to date these can be useful to bring to your initial consultations however.

How much will my appointment cost?

Trauma and Orthopaedic physiotherapy consultations are charged at £100/hour. We pride ourselves in providing a comprehensive service and all of our consultations are therefore one hour in duration.

What should I bring with me?

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and have any equipment (including walking aids) available at the first appointment. If you have any letters or reports relating to your diagnosis or treatment this can be very useful for your Physiotherapist.

What happens in the assessment appointment ?

TraumaPhysio assessments are comprehensive and specific to each person’s needs. Your Physiotherapist will discuss what has led you to seek treatment and find out a little about you and the impact that your condition is having on you before deciding upon the most appropriate method of assessment. This is likely to involve some specific testing of your strength, joint movement, muscle flexibility and coordination. Your physio will also want to see how you are able to move yourself and may want to observe you completing any problematic tasks.

At the end of the initial consultation we will always discuss the findings of our assessment and how they relate to the problems that you are experiencing, before agreeing the most suitable treatment approach. At TraumaPhysio we aim to start treating within the first session and will likely give you some specific advice or exercises to begin your rehabilitation.

How often will you need to see me?

This really depends on the nature of your condition, the problems that you are experiencing, your goals and how you would prefer to work. For some people a single session with some specific advice and an exercise prescription may be sufficient, whilst others may benefit most from a period of more intensive neurological rehabilitation. TraumaPhysio makes recommendations that are specific for each person we see as one size certainly does not fit all.

See what our customers have to say about us...

Helen worked with my 88 year old Mum following her knee replacement. I was very very impressed. Personable, knowledgeable, supportive, she got my Mum full mobilised and back playing bowls. She had her operation in November 2018 and was she was back playing bowls in January 2019. My Mum has now had a refurbishment of her replacement hip and I have no hesitation in going back to her and recommending her to others.

Andrew Mcculloch

An inner ear problem last July that developed into vestibular neuritis led to problems with the muscles, nerves and joints in my neck which caused nausea, dizziness, vision problems as well as the usual aches and pain. In February I came to the Physio4 You team in despair. Rachel did a thorough vestibular assessment and was able to reassure me that the vestibular problem was resolved. I was then given Helen’s details for the neck issues. She has been a real Godsend. She is calm, friendly, reassuring and professional. After a thorough exam in which she listened carefully to my history of symptoms, she took time to explain what the problem was and a plan for treatment going forward. This problem has caused me real anxiety at times. She set my mind at rest that I will get better. I am still undergoing treatment but there has been a vast improvement. She takes time to answer all my questions and I always leave feeling so positive. I would thoroughly recommend their services
