Who do you help?

Our Orthopaedic Trauma Physiotherapists help children and adults following serious and complex injuries including fractures, joint replacement, amputation, muscular injuries (including degloving) and ligamentous injury. TraumaPhysio has extensive experience in providing treatment to individuals during and following litigation and recognises the important role and responsibilities we assume when providing rehabilitation to this client group. We have developed comprehensive assessment and treatment processes that result in long term improvements and provide detailed written, photographic and video records.

Do you work with Case Managers and solicitors?

The TraumaPhysio team has extensive experience of working with Case Managers and Solicitors to provide rehabilitation for clients with complex needs during and following the litigation process. Our approach is aspirational, yet realistic, with the aim of maximising independence and maintaining health.

TraumaPhysio accepts instructions to complete Initial Needs Assessments (INA) to identify rehabilitation requirements and to provide recommendations for treatment, technology and equipment needs. Our reports are comprehensive, and our treatment programmes are goal directed and holistic. We welcome initial enquiries and offer meet and greet consultations via video without charge to ensure that our Orthopaedic Trauma Physiotherapist is the most appropriate for the client and to begin the process of establishing a therapeutic relationship.

Where are you and what areas do you cover?

TraumaPhysio provides a comprehensive domiciliary service in Herts, Essex, South Bedfordshire, East Buckinghamshire, North London and East London. Our provision is however expanding so if your enquiry relates to a client outside of these areas please do contact is and if we are unable to help we may be able to assist on recommending a more local Physiotherapist.

What kind of treatments do you offer?

TraumaPhysio provides effective, targeted treatment. Our Physiotherapists maintain high levels of professional standards and training which means that our treatment approaches are constantly evolving to ensure they’re the very best.

Orthopaedic Trauma Physiotherapy treatments can broadly be divided into those that look to directly change the nature of the condition and others that train the body to compensate for a loss of function or utilise aids and strategies to adapt to a permanent change.

TraumaPhysio treatments can therefore be very varied but it’s often important that they’re progressive and specific to whatever movement or task the client wants to do. To achieve this we provide structured exercises supported by videos and photographs, hands-on treatment, video analysis, retraining of movement, assistive technology, equipment /splint/support provision and community focussed activities.

What are your opening hours?

TraumaPhysio is open Monday to Friday, 9a.m. to 5p.m. If we are in a consultation and unable to answer your call please leave a message and one of our team will return it as soon as possible. You can also make enquires via our contact page.

How long are the appointments?

A comprehensive TraumaPhysio assessment is expected to take one to two hours. For highly complex cases we may request an additional period to ensure that we address all of the client’s needs.
Our Physiotherapy assessment reports usually require one to two hours to complete and are comprehensive including:

  •  A detailed history.
  • Discussion of the client’s perception of their problems and goals.
  • Clinical assessment.
  • Functional screening and analysis with reference to the identified clinical impairments.
  • Objective measurement.
  • An outline of the trauma rehabilitation treatment plan.
  • Identification of equipment needs.
  • Associated costs and recommended rehabilitation schedule.

TraumaPhysio consultations with the client are usually one hour in duration (excluding completion of records). On occasion we may require extended sessions to satisfy the client’s goals and to allow for community-based rehabilitation. All extended sessions will be agreed in advance.

What is your cancellation policy?

TraumaPhysio requires 24-hours’ notice of any cancellation and failure to do so may result in the full fee being charged. We do however recognise that sometimes our client’s complex needs necessitate changes to their timetables at short notice and we therefore seek to avoid cancellation charges when late notice cancellations are reasonable.

What is your referral process?

TraumaPhysio welcomes informal enquiries in the first instance to ensure that we are the very best option for your client. Following the initial enquiry we would expect to provide a CV for the treating Orthopaedic Trauma Physiotherapist, our Terms & Conditions in addition to a professional conformance declaration.
Following a mutual agreement of the clinician’s suitability we can provide an accurate quotation for the initial assessment based on the client’s location. We offer an uncharged meet and greet session by telephone or video of up to 15-minutes if required.

The treating clinician would then welcome a formal confirmation of instruction, acceptance of our Terms & Conditions and expect to receive detailed referral information.

What happens in the assessment appointment?

TraumaPhysio assessments are comprehensive and specific to each person’s needs. The Physiotherapist will discuss what has led the client to seek treatment and find out a little about their background and the impact that the condition is having on them before deciding upon the most appropriate method of assessment. This is likely to involve some specific testing of their strength, joint movement, muscle flexibility, coordination and any additional special tests relevant to their presentation and needs. The physio will also want to see how they are able to move themselves with functional activities and may want to observe them completing any problematic tasks.

At the end of the initial consultation we will always discuss the findings of our assessment and how they relate to the problems that the client is experiencing, before agreeing the most suitable treatment approach. At TraumaPhysio we aim to start treating within the first session and will likely provide some specific advice or exercises to begin the client’s rehabilitation.

How often will you schedule treatment?

This really depends on the nature of the client’s condition, the problems that they are experiencing, their goals, the treatment plans of other team members and how they would prefer to work. For some people a single session with some specific advice and an exercise prescription may be sufficient, whilst others may benefit most from a period of more intensive trauma rehabilitation. TraumaPhysio makes recommendations that are specific for each person we see as one size certainly does not fit all.

Where do your consultations take place?

TraumaPhysio is a domiciliary and community-based service. Our consultations often begin in the person’s own home, but we would usually expect to integrate a community focus to the rehabilitation programme and develop inter-disciplinary goals. This may include local mobility practice, public transport, gym visits, workplace sessions as well as more aspirational activities such as climbing, kayaking or snowsports.

What treatments do you offer?

At TraumaPhysio we seek to empower clients to make decisions, take appropriate risks and provide clients with support to turn barriers into possibilities. Our treatments are directed to develop self-efficacy where possible, though when necessary we will include ‘hands-on’ or ‘manual therapy’ to support this approach. We use a blend of traditional physiotherapy, exercise prescription and technology within this framework.

How often do you provide updates?

We would expect to discuss and agree a schedule of updates that is appropriate for the case. In some circumstances it may be necessary to provide a sessional summary, but we would usually expect to complete short reports monthly and comprehensive reassessments every two to three months.

How do you measure progress?

Our physio team use a range of subjective and objective measures to quantify deficits and record progress. This includes self-reported outcome measures, clinical testing, functional measurements, movement analysis with technology and SMART goal planning.

Testimonials

See what our customers have to say about us...

Helen worked with my 88 year old Mum following her knee replacement. I was very very impressed. Personable, knowledgeable, supportive, she got my Mum full mobilised and back playing bowls. She had her operation in November 2018 and was she was back playing bowls in January 2019. My Mum has now had a refurbishment of her replacement hip and I have no hesitation in going back to her and recommending her to others.

Andrew Mcculloch

An inner ear problem last July that developed into vestibular neuritis led to problems with the muscles, nerves and joints in my neck which caused nausea, dizziness, vision problems as well as the usual aches and pain. In February I came to the Physio4 You team in despair. Rachel did a thorough vestibular assessment and was able to reassure me that the vestibular problem was resolved. I was then given Helen’s details for the neck issues. She has been a real Godsend. She is calm, friendly, reassuring and professional. After a thorough exam in which she listened carefully to my history of symptoms, she took time to explain what the problem was and a plan for treatment going forward. This problem has caused me real anxiety at times. She set my mind at rest that I will get better. I am still undergoing treatment but there has been a vast improvement. She takes time to answer all my questions and I always leave feeling so positive. I would thoroughly recommend their services
